ABOUT THIS PIERCING
A septum piercing is placed through the thin, soft tissue beneath the cartilage of the nasal septum.
When properly placed, it does not pass through the thick central cartilage of the nose. Instead, your piercer will locate the appropriate area of tissue based on your anatomy.
Septum piercings are especially versatile because they can be styled with a variety of rings once healed, and some jewelry styles can be flipped upward inside the nose for a more discreet look.
WHAT TO EXPECT
CONSULTATION & ANATOMY CHECK
We’ll assess your nasal anatomy, answer any questions, and make sure this piercing is right for you.
Your piercer will carefully determine the proper placement based on the soft tissue beneath your septum.
MARKING & PLACEMENT
The piercing is performed using a sterile, single-use needle and professional jewelry.
THE PIERCING
You’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions and have time to ask any additional questions.
AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
HEALING & AFTERCARE
Keep the piercing clean, avoid unnecessary touching or rotating the jewelry, and be gentle when blowing or wiping your nose while it heals.
GOOD TO KNOW
Septum anatomy varies from person to person, so your piercer will locate the safest and most appropriate placement before piercing.
Anatomy Matters
Swelling is Usually Mild
Some tenderness and swelling can happen early on, but septum piercings often have less visible swelling than many other facial piercings.
Depending on the jewelry style, a septum piercing may be able to be flipped upward inside the nose once your piercer says it is appropriate.
Jewelry Can Be Discreet
Twisting, flipping, or repeatedly adjusting the jewelry during healing can irritate the piercing and slow the healing process.
Avoid Moving the Jewelry
FAQs
-
Usually, no. A properly placed septum piercing goes through the softer tissue beneath the main cartilage of the nose.
-
Often, yes. Certain circular barbells can be flipped upward inside the nose, but it’s best to avoid repeatedly moving the jewelry while the piercing is still healing.
-
It can. Newer septum piercings may begin shrinking or closing quickly without jewelry, while long-healed piercings may stay open longer. How fast this happens varies from person to person.
