ABOUT THIS PIERCING

The Smiley piercing is placed through the upper lip frenulum, the small fold of tissue connecting the inside of the upper lip to the gums.

Because of its hidden placement, the jewelry usually becomes visible when you smile, giving the piercing its name.

Not everyone has enough frenulum tissue to safely support this piercing, so an anatomy check is especially important before proceeding.

Because the jewelry sits inside the mouth, placement and jewelry selection also matter reducing unnecessary contact with the teeth and gums.

WHAT TO EXPECT

CONSULTATION & ANATOMY CHECK

We’ll assess your anatomy, answer any questions, and make sure this piercing is right for you.

Your piercer will identify the safest placement within the frenulum based on your individual anatomy.

MARKING & PLACEMENT

The piercing is performed using sterile, single-use needles and professional jewelry.

THE PIERCING

You’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions and have time to ask any additional questions.

AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

HEALING & AFTERCARE

Proper aftercare is important during healing. Avoid unnecessary touching or playing with the jewelry, maintain good oral hygiene, and follow the aftercare instructions provided at your appointment.

GOOD TO KNOW

Not everyone has enough frenulum tissue for a Smiley piercing. Your piercing will assess your anatomy before deciding whether it can be pierced safely.

Anatomy is Essential

Oral Jewelry Requires Attention

Because the jewelry sits inside the mouth, its important to watch for repeated contact with teeth or gums.

The frenulum is thin tissue and may heal relatively quickly, but the piercing should still be treated gently throughout the full healing period.

Healing Can Be Fast

Do not flip, twist, tug, or repeatedly move the jewelry with your tongue or fingers. Frequent movement can irritate the piercing and increase stress on the frenulum.

Avoid Playing with the Jewelry
